Regional Educational Laboratory Program

No Child Left Behind Act
(NCLB) is the main federal law affecting education from kindergarten through high school. NCLB is built on four principles: accountability for results, more choices for parents, greater local control and flexibility, and an emphasis on doing what works based on scientific research. Comprehensive Centers Program

The Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement
is funded by the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education. Its mission is to assist schools and districts engaged in comprehensive school reform and improvement by providing reliable information about research-based strategies and assistance. It also provides support for the Comprehensive School Reform Program. Its website currently houses a variety of tools, guides, and links relating to school improvement, including announcements of new research, reports, and events related to comprehensive school reform. OELA's National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition & Language Instruction Educational Programs (NCELA)
collects, analyzes, synthesizes and disseminates information about language instruction educational programs for English language learners and related programs. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement & Academic Achievement for Limited English Proficient Students (OELA) under Title III of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001. The What Works Clearinghouse of the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences
collects, screens, and identifies studies of the effectiveness of educational interventions (programs, products, practices, and policies). It has launched an
Evidence-Based Education Help Desk, whose mission is to provide policymakers, practitioners, and researchers with practical, easy-to-use resources to advance evidence-based education. Specifically, the Help Desk offers resources to assist in conducting rigorous evaluations of educational programs, sponsoring such evaluations, and identifying and implementing evidence-based programs. The Help is managed by the
Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy, in partnership with the What Works Clearinghouse, under a subcontract with the
Institute of Education Sciences.
