An Exploration of At-Risk Learners and Online Education

This brief provides a sampling of 22 different online programs currently working with at-risk student populations and examines the strategies these programs are implementing, their experiences, and recommendations for programs facing similar challenges. It also describes a survey of 16 other K-12 online learning programs involving at-risk students to analyze these virtual schools’ design and delivery methods to determine specific techniques being utilized to help at-risk students successfully complete online courses.
